L16/24 Diesel Engine
The L16/24 is the state of the art in diesel GenSet design, its smooth, uncluttered lines conceal a wealth of advanced technology that by any measure, makes this addition to the L16/24 diesel range the world’s best GenSet in the 430-990 kW range.
HFO operation at 1, 200 rpm To optimize the power-to-weight ratio, the L16/24 operates at 1200 rpm. Even so, its advanced engineering design permits use of the same HFO as the vessel’s propulsion engines-aproven the L16/24 concept providing cost-effective operation across the entire power spectrum, from idle to full load.
Simplified layout All support functions-oil and water pumps, coolers, filters, and safety and regulator valves-have been collected in a single frontbox for easy accessibility and maintenance.
Pipeless design All these functions are linked to the internal oil and water circuits without pipes. Overall, the number of components has been reduced by no less than 40%. Fewer sensitive components means even greater reliability.
Separate cylinder units Each complete cylinder assembly-head, piston, cylinder liner and con. Rod can be removed as a unit for easy maintenance or replacement.
Self-controlling cooling-water system A patented single-string system both ensures optimal combustion conditions from idle to full load and eliminates internal condendation.
Lambda controller A lambda controller ensures that all injected fuel is burnt, countering the internal engine pollution and increased wear that might otherwise result from GenSet step loading.
Improved noise and vibration insulation The engine mounts have been specially designed to reduce vibration to a minimum and very effective sound insulation has been incorporated.
Full compatibility with MAN B&W main engines The L16/24 and its support system have been designed to be fully compatible with MAN B&W main engines, permitting an integrated approach to engineroom design in terms of fuel-oil supply, cooling water and starting-air systems. The benefits are a lower first cost and simpler operation and maintenance.
