Biogas and Landfill gas fuelled gensets


Ranging from 50kVA to over 625KvaThe term biogas refers to gases created by the anaerobic fermentation of biological materials. The main constituents are methane and carbon dioxide. Considerable quantities of biogas are produced by sludge digestion in the tanks of sewage treatment plants (sewage gas) and anaerobic fermentation of agricultural waste and organic residues in garbage tips (landfill gas). Since biomass is a source of energy with no net carbon dioxide emissions, its use as a fuel can help reduce the use of fossil fuels, thus helping to reduce the greenhouse.

The structures and specifications of series IFC6 brushless synchronous generator
 
Generator: The alternator comprises the main machine, exciter and excitation system. The main machine is of revolving magnetic field with cylindrical rotor and damper winding. The exciter is revolving armature machine. The exciter power is supplied to the rotor of the main machine via rotating rectifiers.
 
Excitation system :The alternators are fitted with thyristor voltage regulator THYRIPART® excitation system. The excitation current can be regulated automatically in accordance with the variation of load, resulting in constant voltage. This style of excitation has excellent kinetic character in the conditions of load-variation and short-circuit.
 
Insulation syste:The alternator windings are equipped with Siemens DURIGNIT®2000 insulation system which meets Class F requirements to VDE0530.  The insulating materials used are non-hygroscopic, non-tracking and withstand severe thermal stressing. The stator winding of the alternators are made of special enameled wire of high hydrolysis-resisting quality or flat copper bars with mica paper. A special resin impregnation process is adopted to the standard insulation. This results in high mechanical strength, vibration resistance and excellent dielectric strength and renders the alternators suitable for operation in all climates to DIN50 019.
 
Short-circuit current and short-circuit rating : Due to the load-dependent operation of the static excitation system the alternators meet the requirements for lowest possible voltage dips and fast voltage recovery after sudden loading with large squirrel-cage induction motors. The excitation principle used provides sustained short-circuit currents of approximately 3 to 5 times the rated current. This enables the use of selective protective relaying. The alternators must be relieved of the sustained short-circuit current after 5s.
 
Overload:In accordance with VDE0530, the alternators can have an overload of 1.5 times the rated current at rated voltage for 2 minutes.

The PCK1-RZ400 control panel has comprehensive protecting function for over-current, short circuit, reverse power, low frequency and low voltage etc.
It also has the functions of automatic quasi-synchronism, load distribution and automatic power factor adjustment.
PCK-RZ400 can analyze the condition of the grid, once the grid is shut down, it can cut the gas generator set from the grid until the grid start to work again, then automatically recover the connection.
The control panel can also cooperate with TEM system and monitoring instrument, to monitor water temp, oil temp, oil pressure and speed of the engine. Once threat emerges, control panel will alarm and automatically switch off for protection.

Functions
Automatic adjust technology of air and fuel ratio: The component of biogas is changeable, it is necessary to control the air and fuel ratio of the engine by the electric-control admixture. The engine monitoring the combustion condition automatically. Then the central control unit send out dictate to make the generator drive the slide valve to change the clearance, so as to change the admission amount and keep the air-fuel ratio of the engine to an ideal condition. The whole adjusting process is carried out automatically. As the concentration of CH4 in biogas changes, the generator set that without the automatic adjusting technology of air-fuel ratio can not be used to generate electricity fuelled biogas.
TEM system can collect, deposit, display, print and control the parameters of the generator set. The data can display in the form of stimulant data, meter, report forms, recording statistics and etc. The recording interval can be set discretionarily, the system can also print real-time and recorded report forms, the print interval can be set automatically or manually. This system can collect, display and record the following parameters: cylinder temperature, exhaust temperature, water temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, speed, power, voltage, current, power factor, frequency, accumulative total output and running time.

(2)The protective function of the generator

Under voltage protection, shut off the output switch: When the actual voltage is less than 50%-60% of the rated voltage, the main circuit breaker cut off.
Under frequency protection, shut off the output switch
Contradictorily power protective alarm, shut off the output switch: The contradictorily power is as 5%-15% of the rated power while parallel operation, the main circuit breaker shut off within 10s.
Over current protective alarm, the output switch cut off: inspect the over current signal by the over current relay of the generator set, rectify as 1.25 times of the rated current
Over load protection and alarm, cut off the output switch
The output switch cut off while the generator stop, realize trip automatically.
Short circuit protection: short circuit protection, retarding tripping mechanism of low-voltage circuit breaker of main loop serves as short-circuit protector, and it acts when current reaches 8-10 times of rated current.
Over heat protection: Sound and light warning signal is released when the temperature of stator is over 145�? main circuit breaker shut off.

Requirements for gas source: Inside the gas pipeline, within the range of 1m before gas pressure regulator, the temperature of biogas less than or equal 35 oC;Gas pressure should within the range of 3-10kPa;
The speed of gas pressure vibration less than or equal 1kPa/min; Methane content of biogas greater than or equal 40%;
H2S content less than or equal 200mg/nm3; NH3 content less than or equal 20mg/Nm3;
Diameter of impurities less than or equal 5μm; Content of impurities less than or equal 30mg/Nm3;
Content of water less than or equal 40g/Nm3;
 
For the optimization of system performance, users should provide data of gas content and pressure to us. (For biogas with methane content between 30-40%, we have a specially designed model).
